Guillermo von Breymann

Guillermo von Breymann’s 50-year professional career has included a concentrated focus in the areas of strategic consultancy, banking, and financial services, along with his own entrepreneurial development of distinctive projects, primarily in his native Costa Rica. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA with Honors from the London School of Economics.

About me

In addition to holding top managerial positions with the Bank of Boston and Central American Bank for Economic Integration, Guillermo conceptualized, founded, and directed the Banex Banking Group (later purchased by HSBC and Colombia’s Davivienda) and the Costa Rican Banking Association, catalysts for the opening of private banking in Costa Rica in the 1980s. Guillermo also co-founded and organized CINDE, the private sector think-tank that has been instrumental in Costa Rica in enacting critical economic structural changes, attracting foreign investment, and diversifying exports. CINDE has repeatedly been named by the United Nations as one of the top three export promotion agencies in the world.

In partnership with Salvador’s Poma Group, Mr. von Breymann co-developed the 280-key, 5-Star InterContinental Hotel and associated 150,000 m2 Multiplaza Shopping Mall and Office Tower complex in Costa Rica. Each property is recognized as the undisputed leader in its respective field.

Along with serving on multiple boards for corporations and business chambers, Guillermo has represented his country in missions abroad, some with the rank of Special Ambassador, including presentations to committees of US Congress. He continues to maintain an active role in structuring and financing hospitality and residential development projects throughout Latin America, including leading an innovative proposal to develop the province of Limón, Costa Rica, into a world-class tourism destination.
